From a farming background, Jennifer is married with 2 girls and works in education. Having studied lots she has achieved many postgraduate qualifications, each one opening a new door for her in her career.
Having initially studied psychology and worked in various care homes (mental health, special needs and finally children with social, emotional difficulties). Jennifer then moved into schools and retrained to be a teacher. Over the years, her favourite topics to teach were PSHE and psychology and later she went on to become a schools SENCO until she left to join the local authority as a specialist in teaching and identify literacy learning difficulties, and being part of the Virtual School.
In 2005 she developed a bone tumour, which shaped her life beyond words. Having not been listened to by medics, she wasn’t allowed pain relief and her concerns were belittled (being told – ‘you’ve probably dislocated it.’ ‘Deal with it.’ ‘You’re being dramatic.’). All this whilst having her bones breaking and being destroyed with each movement. After 11 months, the ‘aggressive tumour, the size of an orange’ was finally removed. But her voice and confidence in who she was, was destroyed. It took her years to recover, including the feelings coming back during her pregnancy. This all made her the person she is now, a person who strives to give people a voice to be heard.
